Ayurveda

Archaeological history of Sri Lanka harks back to at least 30,000 B.C The
country has its own indigenous system of medicine which has been practised
for many centuries. Ayurvedic tradition of Sri Lanka is a fusion of the
Ayurveda and Siddha systems of India, Unani medicine from the Arabs, and
most importantly, the Desheeya Chikitsa, an indigenous medicine of the
island nation.
Ayurveda Resorts
Two prominent Ayurveda resorts where the healing art of ancient Sri Lanka
are Aida Ayurveda and Holistic Health Resort.
Ayurveda
Ayurveda is as much ancient as the human civilisation. The concept has
inherited many an ideology along the passage of time, and has got refined in
to a fine art. The word "ayurveda" consists two syllables. The
first part "ayur" means long life, while "veda" connotes
science. Ayurveda leads us to long and healthy life. Ayurveda follows the
rules of nature. It tells us how to protect our own health as well as to
take care of the sick.
Ayurvedic Therapy
In Ayurvedic therapy, the physician diagnoses the root of the cause and
treats it accordingly. Almost all prescriptions used in treatment are
produced by raw materials found naturally. The raw materials come from
roots, stems, seeds, fruits, barks, leaves, flowers, & nuts of plants.
Among other natural things, milk, honey, pearls, musk, shells, iron, gold,
silver & copper are used. Ayurvedic drugs do not have any side effects.
Ayurvedic therapy varies from simple oral treatment to more complex
acupuncturing, electro treatment and inoculation by injection. Panchakarma
is also an effective form of ayurvedic treatment. Various factors which
cause the diseases can be reversed or minimised using Ayurvedic treatment.
