There can be places where direct dialling is not available. In that case you have to book trunk calls via exchange office. Call 101 for trunk bookings in Colombo. For numbers in other places refer to directory.

International
From most towns in Sri Lanka you can do international direct dialling. If this facility is not available in any region you have to book the call from the exchange. Within Colombo dial 134 for international inquiries. If enquiring from outside Colombo dial 324144/ 329792.

Phone Cards
While touring phone cards are a better way to make inland and international phone calls. Three prominent phone card companies in Sri Lanka are Lanka Pay, Metro-card and Super-card. Government owned Sri Lanka Telecom are provides phone cards services which are cheapest too.

Sri Lanka has good government postal network reaching every corner of the country. Private postal services are also available in major towns and tourist resorts.

Phone Cards: Phone Cards are the convenient way to make inland and international phone calls especially while touring, there are at least three private phone card companies in Sri Lanka - Lanka Pay, Metro-card and Super-card and the government owned Sri Lanka Telecom. The rates are similar between the three private phone companies but you can use one company's card in only that companies booth. Phone Cards can be bought from shops near pay phone kiosks and the minimum cost of a card is Rs. 100. The cheapest rates are offered by Sri Lanka Telecom.

Cellular Phones
Cellular phones services in Sri Lanka are continuously evolving. Colombo and Kandy have good cellular services which have also now extended to Galle, Nuwara Eliya, Kurunegala and Ratnapura. Tariffs and service packages of various providers differ.
